Taiwanese Eating Habit

What kind of eating habit do Taiwanese have？

As everyone knows, food plays a major role in different countries’ cultures, so does in Taiwan . From Chinese New Year to the Mid-Autumn Festival, food makes each occasion special and inimitable. Thanks to Taiwan ’s geography and history, we can now choose from a wide variety of mouthwatering cuisines.

As I have mentioned above, different festivals have different kinds of food.

In Chinese New Year, which is considered a very significant festival in Taiwan , people would have a vocation for a couple of days during January to February. Members in the family and their relations would gather together and have sumptuous dinner. On a big rounded table, there may be delicious dumplings, fish that means 〝Always a surplus in the end of the year〞, and also some rice cakes made with bean or brown sugar that  symbolize〝Their family could be more and more promoted year after year.〞

In the Lantern Festival, people eat Glutinous rice balls to celebrate growing up for one age. They are also eaten in the end of winter to warn their bodies up and get through badness.

In the Dragon Boat Festival, people always like to eat rice dumplings. It was originally made for a famous poet, Qu Yuan, in our history. He was a prime minister who felt very disappointed of the monarch in the country of Chu . As the result, he finally jumped into the river and murdered himself. The residents didn’t want his body to get eaten by the fish in the river, so they made th3 dumplings rice and threw all them into the river hoping the fish could eat it instead of Qu Yuan.

In the Mid-Autumn Festival, family members would gather together again, enjoying the glorious full moon. Recently, they began to have a barbecue at this period of time. They eat moon cakes that symbolizes〝Reunion〞. People also have a family reunion dinner to celebrate this day.

Taiwan is really a diversified Island . Through out a year we could have lots of different finds of food not only show up our culture but also the delivery though generation to generation, yet, Taiwan offers a wide range of ethnic food as well. With so many choices, Taiwan is absolutely a food-lover’s paradise.
